Swimmer !!!

Since childhood i was attracted to water n always wanted to swim like a shark or a dolphin. Inorder to fulfil this dream of mine, i joined swimming classes wen i was in 3rd standard.. At the beginning it was fun as we were trained in a smaller pool where the water was up to our thigh level.. Then one day we were taken to the bigger pool which is 20 feet deep !! I was hardly 4 feet tall then.. This turned out to be a nightmare for me as i drowned in my first attempt itself ! :-0 This wasn’t good for my confidence as i was very scared now n swore never to swim ever again..

However, this year wen i got in the 12th standard, i decided to take a chance n fulfil my swiming ambitions. I took admission in the same pool n learned all the techniques sincerely.. However, glancing at the beautiful gals swimming on the other side was inevitable

Then i went to the big pool n taking Bajrangbali’s name i dived with all my courage.. It was wonderful !! I swam smoothly n was declared a swimmer in that month itself !

Now i’m a regular swimmer n love my water experiences..! (although i wish they’d reduce the amount of chlorine in the water )

Moral: Darr ke aage Jeet hai (Victory lies ahead of Fear) !!

Kolkata TweetUp !!

Twitter is very fast becoming the new talk of the town.. after spending approximately a year as a Tweep, i finally got a chance to meet fellow Tweeps from my city, Kolkata.. The tweetup was scheduled to take place on 21st June, 2009 at McDonalds, Park Street from 4 pm onwards.. on my way to the venue i missed a train n sweated like a dog.. the weather was absolutely non-cooperative, but then how can you stop a teenage boy from reaching his destination !!

Reaching half an hour late, i found @ePandu right in front.. @nimbus3000 @shrabasti @theevilp @hussulinux @aritra_m were already present their.. I’m better known as @ankit_j in the twitter world..
Seating ourselves in a convenient place we shot into a round of introductions.. one interesting fact was that we all used our twitter handles to introduce ourselves rather than our names!! Tweetup is a wonderful concept, it not only allows us to expand our social base but also helps us meet a variety of people.. #koltweetup had a superb variety of members from Chennai, Pune, New Delhi n Kolkata ofcourse.. the Tweeps were no less varying, we had Tweeps from schools, colleges, BPOs, entrepreneurs n many more !! Meeting this completely unknown group of people was an amazing experience.. @arjunghosh@theevilp @nimbus3000 bought in some french fries to munch on.. @nambuj arrived later followed by @CreativeWolf .. then came in @sahaanirban n @bassyc .. @GauravSaha made his appearance felt through a phone call..   i learned a lot of interesting stuff n the topics seemed to be neverending.. Some photo clickings alongwid live tweeting added to our tweetup.. then as the group expanded, we went up to take up a larger space on the ground floor..
But the only disappointing factor was the presence of only one female @Shrabasti at the meetup , kudos to her for the spirit ! We also had some serious discussions regarding using Tweetups for some productive purpose n fun as well.. everyone enjoyed a lot n no one seemed to realize the passing time ! Some tweeps had to leave us early due to commitments but their presence meant a lot.. @subhr0 arrived pretty late with a friend but it is better late than never ! One of my friend arrived later too n got introduced to the fellow Tweople..
Then everybody exchanged phone numbers n addresses.. At about 7:30 we all shook hands n bid adieu to the first major tweetup in the City of Joy.. It was a superb experience n i’m really proud to be a part of it.. all the tweeps were such wonderful people and i’m luking frwrd to meeting them again!! As a conclusion i can say that #koltweetup was a big success n i’m confidant that we’ll be organising much bigger ones !! As @sahaanirban said in his blog “twitter is going to bring a revolution… a revolution of its sorts.. in uniting people, harvesting public awareness, bringing social awareness and knowledge sharing…”

My Experience in the Theory of Substantial Loss

Lost Companion

Hello friends.. a blog post after a long time..Well, from the last some months i’ve been losing a lot of things, the recent add-up being my Nokia N91 going missing It so happened that as the exams were nearing, i was going to a friend’s house for some productive group studies.. Due to a cut on my ankle i first decided to get some bandaids. It was on returning home from the med shop that i realized that my phone wasn’t in my pocket!! I searched the house hoping that i must hve left it back, but soon realized it was nowhere to be found.. I dialled through my other phone only to realize that it had been stolen or picked up by someone in case it had fallen.. However, it turned out that the guy was pretty smart coz he’d turned off the phone. I got the sim locked and reported in the nearby police station (the police’s non-cooperation pissed me off).. Later i went to Nokia Care for some suggestions but to no avail. They had even stopped blocking devices based on IMEI numbers since a year back.. There’s negligible chance of getting it back n i’m looking forward to buying a new one.. Recently, someone had picked my pocket in a fair named Subhaas Mela causinthan badg me a loss of around Rs.1800, mostly consisting foreign currency.. A few days back my school blazer went missing on school’s last day before vacations. Someone had most probably picked it up mistakenly and it had my Pierre Cardin pen attached to it too.. Thus, as a result, i’ve become much more cautious and hope i that these incidents do me more good rather than bad..

Machine dat nearly gave me Migraine…

I used to hve a desktop a looooong time ago in my childhood…after dat i bought a laptop n frm then onwards nevr touched the desktop….however, with increasing workload, i decided to bring my dead desktop back to life again ( after nearly half a decade)….i could hve easily got a vry fair amount of it by auctioning it in some antiques showroom since most of it’s parts were so old n obsolete dat it’s tough to find em anywhere even by searching….however, i decided to take up the challenge of re-aliving the machine n went ahead…opening the cpu cabinet, i saw dat most of the parts had become either cockroach societies or dining area for rats !!!! it was all abysmal.. but anyways, i always kept spare parts but soon i realized dat the cpu didn’t hve a RAM either !!! after searching thoroughly i found a 128 mb ram in the store room, but dat too was an hd ram…the motherboard was outdated, the usb jacks n keyboard n mouse ports were damaged, the processor (pentium 1) was pathetic n the hard disk was of only 10 gb !!!! imagine a machine of such historic eqipments…therefore, i dropped my plan of restoring this old cpu n rather bought a much newer cpu from my office wich was staling there…

This cpu, although still not very latest, but adequately workable, had pentium 4, 40 gb hdd n i replaced it’s 128 mb ram wid a new 512 mb ram…anyways, on strting it i realized dat it had windows 98…i installed windows xp in it but due to one or other silly mistakes evrytime, i cudn’t succeed till my 3rd attempt of installation…having done this, i went on to switch on the comp but still it had a Problem…it was showing various msgs of selecting a proper boot device…once again i opened up the whole cabinet n found dat there were 2 hard disks in it n one of them had some bad sectors…removing it, the machine finally strted…but still there was a Problem….the icons were all appearing mammothic n the resolution of the screen was not ready to go more than 640*480, it’s sound was missing n the hardwares were not working properly…then i realized of installin drivers(silly me)..i remembered dat i had kept the drivers in the drawyer but dat was missing too n so i went on to dwnld the latest drivers from net..but since the motherboard(from intel) was an old one, it took me quite a time to get hold of em…

Having installed the drivers, i peacefully went on to restrt the comp…SUCCESS!!!…it was running all smooth now….then i decided to install a dvd writer…i plugged it in properly n waited for windows to recognize it…nothing happened….once agin i opened evrything n after a lot of hush hush n mathapuchchi i found dat jumper of the existing cd rom n the new dvd rom were set to same…having solved dat too….i thought of givin the comp a final re-strt…i switched it off completely, waited five minute, n then switched it on again… BINGO!!!… the cpu strted n the welcome music cud b heard from the speaker too…but wat is this ?????!!!!!!!! the monitor was displaying nothing….WTF!!!!….bein frustrated, i landed two massive punches on the back of the monitor n nearly kicked the cpu…saala itna kuchh karne par bhi koi faayda nahi, ek aur jhamela paida ho gaya…then i checked n re-checked all the ports n cords…wat i found later, made me ashamed of myself…it was simply dat i was not pushing the monitor’s power button hard enough(bein an old monitor, it’s button neede to b pushed hard)…

The system srted n a smile spread across my face….i began installing the softwares…but a PROBLEM ONCE AGAIN!!!!…the softwares cudn’t b installed…reason???? the xp i installed didn’t have a fu#@ing service pack in it…i once again installed the xp wid sp 3…n finally due to God’s grace it strted working n is working pretty fine till now…My frnd Rajesh was vry helping in all these….Phew !!

Hurray !!!

YEAH !!! after my back-breakin labour n super-tiresome study-sessions, the results finally came out n i was really satisfied…. .. The results finally came out  20th May n eased me of a great burden…the 92% i got in my icse is really satisfactory for me although i had expected a bit more in maths n evs….however, nothing in a student’s life can be butter-smooth n here too v had a bit of suspense hanging over us wich was really nerve-contracting…

It so happened dat v were supposed to get our results on net at 3 pm… most of us were onl9 frm an hour earlier…however..nearly 15 mins before the deadline, a frnd of mine told dat the result is out… i jumped on my keyboard like a cheetah n entered the required info in the link given by him….my result was in front of me within seconds n i was floating in air seein dat i had fared pretty well !!! i immediately informed evrybody bout my ‘great’ result n told my frnds too…soon my frnds began tellin me dat their result is not yet out so how cud b mine out ??? i thought they must hve flawed but wen evryone strted tellin me the same, i got scared…my cherish fell as soon as it had rose n i got afraid dat it must hve bin some fake result n dat i was now bound to get a worse result…all my joy vanished n i was gripped in tension…

after a lot of hush n mush, evrybody’s result came out nearly an hour later than the fixed deadline, n i saw dat my result was the same…believe me..the relief was greater than having a massage after trekking….

Soon i was at the recieving end of congratulations from my many friends,relatives n neughbours…i am really happy of doin something worthy…

All my frnds had worked really hard n i wish them CONGRATULATIONS for their effort n good result !!!

Twist in celebration Tale

What a bright morning!!!:-) Now i realize that how beautiful the morning after the exams is!!! However, i cudn’t enjoy a long sleep coz the regularly getting up at early times has habituated me of the same… So, as stated in my earlier post, this post is bout the happenings at WOW.. 7 of us, me,somo,rajesh,piyush,jay,raunak and the spoilsport dipanjan went to WOW.. we reached there at morning and stayed till eve.. during this we had a blast, swimming, dancing, drowning and much more.. We spent most of our time in the wave pool where the best part was drowning Jay!! There were lots of bevies and we enjoyed that too!! When i went on the slide with Rajesh sitting at my back, his heavy weight provided such a great velocity that for once i thought that i’ll be thrown out!! Like in City Center, here too we met a lot of frnds.. The most irritating issue was the presence of two french girls.. it wasn’t the girls who were irritating but the behaviour of people( rather loafers ) towards them.. everyone was staring at them as if they were a rare species about to extinct!! :-\ We also played water polo and had a great time.. :-;

After a tiring day at WOW we decided to enjoy some of the rides at Nicco Park. However, we decided to use the wet-o-wild’s band in the dry park too.. it was a BIG mistake.. we made some polka dots on our yellow bands to make it look real.. another BIG mistake!! We went on a ride to experiment our efficiency..our BIGGEST mistake.. we successfully got on the ride but soon the officer came to us and asked us to sit in a room.. Reason??? He had caught our fraud!!! Raunak was nearly fainting wid fear.. it was a big Bamboo( pronounce Bum-Boo ).. now many officials came and started shouting that ” aera korechhe, aera korechhe, niye chalo, niye chalo” he said that we’ll b handed to the Police!!! Some of my phattu frnds were on the verge of tears.. we were then taken to higher officials and after a lot of makkhan-malai and maska, they allowed us to leave but only after we had to shell out a large sum..( salute to corruption )

Where’s the Party, Dude???

The ending of our boards exams has given us a great reason to celebrate lavishly.. everyone seems to be singing “where’s the part tonite??”.. However, some of my friends like Aman, Sam, Rahul preferred to rest.. :-/ But i was not gonna sit idle nd wud hve went somewhere even alone.. however, Rajesh, a frnd, was equally eager and we went to our patented hangout zone City Center.. after spending some time wandering here n there like ‘awaaras’, we spotted some of the other dudes includin Manosh, Rishit etc.. They were sitting like as if under the influence of drugs!! But later thet explained dat ” khush ho ke itna khaa liya ki pet dard ho raha hai!! “.. Then we went on to meet tonnes of frnds, chillaxed at Cafe Coffe Day, watched Sehwag’s triple Century etc.. the frnds count contd till we were 16 frnds in the evenin!! We hijacked the whole couch at Hangout and ate delicacies while discussin bout next day’s plan of visitin wet-o-wild.. Now, great things happened at WOW which i’ll soon post…till then, party hard guys..we deserve it!!

FINALLY the END

FINALLY!!!! Finally our icse boards exams have come to an end!!.man!! It was a month of exam with painfully slow pace..it seemed that from my birth i was only givin exams and doin nothing else!! however, finally it was all over. History was the biggest bamboo with a major part frm out of syllabus.The most heartily awaited moment arrived as we ended the last paper of Bio which seemed the easiest in the whole exams.. So, it was a great ending indeed making us forget the pains of sleepless nights n tensed days. Afterall, we hve been preparing for these exams since 3 years!!! Some of my classmates like Rahul n Nikit got so excited dat they started playin Holi on the road itself. I stayed away from it as i am not only allergic to those chemical colours but also coz i don’t wanted get into yet another ‘jhamela’..
Although our exams hve ended but i’m a bit despair as now all of us will be movin on different paths n i’ll gravely miss all my friends and tha happy days. Although the sicking tormentin days r over yet there is curiosity for what’s in store..( but not before 2 months frm now )

An End to Torture

HOA !!!! finally our pre boards exams hve come to an end and along wid it hve ended the sleepless nights and tensed days…. aftr all this it’s like heaven wid heartful of relief. The exams were pretty good but the effort was very painful..i follow the on-time-do-it-all method of studyin,i.e, i don’t study the whole year and hve to mug up everythin on th exam eves.. evry nite i had to study till 12 and get up at 2 in the morn.. it was disgustingly painful..getting up out of the warm blanket in cold january while the entire world was sleepin is no less than 3rd degree torture.. th exam’s invigilator’s wre also no cooperating but where there is a will there is a way and surely v found out some ingenius ways of cheating which i’m not goin to reveal here..

 However the bad days r gone but the worse r yet 2 come.. wid the boards xams prowlin closr i’ve got to prepar for it.. wish me all the best guys….
